Need optics suggestions for full size AR
1 Attachment(s)
Looking for input. Was going to ditch the handle for a Larue folding rear battle sight like the one above on the carbine(http://stores.homestead.com/Laruetac...ail.bok?no=104). Not sure what else to do. Does an aimpoint or eotech make sense for a rifle? If I went with a scope, I'd want to stay in the same price range as the holographic options.
Rifle is a pre-brady ban Colt Sportster Competition HBAR I bought back in '92. Thanks. |
Re: Need optics suggestions for full size AR
Depends on how much you are willing to spend and what you want...scope, red dot, both. IMO, it is easy to load up an AR with too much crap...I prefer a good quality 1-4x scope like Leupold or Burris for $200-$300 or something pricey like this: http://www.usoptics.com/product.php?partnumber=SN12-100

What's your price range? Without that knowledge, I suggest the trijicon ACOG. Or buy a Eotech and add a magnifier later? Same price. |

Looking to stay in the same range as an aimpoint or Eotech with a good mount, so 550-650.
Aren't ACOG's $1k+? I guess you are right about the Holographic + magnifier being the same. I guess an Aimpoint/Eotech with magnifier makes the most sense since you can move the magnifier out of the way for closer targets. Gotta save more money. |

Re: Need optics suggestions for full size AR
Stick with the iron sights. You'll never get better practice than with the incredibly user-friendly A2 or A3 iron sights. You'll develope faster target acquisitions and learn to be comfortable out to 300 meters with no scope. This is an important skill.

Re: Need optics suggestions for full size AR
I've got an aimpoint red dot on my m4, I like it, it's pretty accurate too, just keep in mind it doesn't have any magnification so it's not going to compare to a scope in that sense. I do have flip on adjustable sites for backup.
